The Darth Vader helmet is a must have for anyone collecting the Star Wars helmets. Darth Vader is known as the baddest of the bad and so is this build when complete and on the top shelf where it belongs. A lot of expert building techniques and clever piece usage help this set earn full points in design and build. These complicated techniques, lack of function, high price tag, and no minifig in sight means it scores low for Cost and Playability.

What I like most about this set are the details used to make the iconic face mask. Plenty of curved, sloped and rigid pieces are held in place by cleverly spaced studs under the eyes and on the jowls, as well as rods and clips which hold in place the eyes and jaw.

I have not decided if I will begin collecting the helmets or not. They are expensive and offer limited fields of play. While building the helmet, however, I couldn’t help but think the solid base and connecting stem inside the helmet would make an exceptional stand for a larger airplane or space ship.

The Mandalorian Fang Fighter vs TIE Interceptor was released in Spring of 2023 with a price tag of $99.99. Included in the set are two single-seat starfighters from the Mandalorian saga. Featured minifigures include the Mandalorian, a.k.a. Din Djarin, a Mandalorian pilot, TIE Fighter pilot, and astro-mech droid. Two building instruction booklets divide the build by starfighter. Booklet one is for the Fang fighter and is a straight forward build with simple building techniques and few details. Booklet 2 includes building instructions for the TIE Interceptor and has all the complexities and details lacking from the Fang Fighter. My favorite features are the angled wings connected to the fuselage with Technic pegs, a SNOT building technique. One drawback is the tight cockpit. To insert the pilot, you lower the windscreen and lift the top hatch. The TIE Interceptor build makes this set worth the purchase. The TIE Interceptor is expertly crafted and looks sleek from every angle. The size and scale of the Interceptor match recent TIE Fighters and X-wings enhancing any shelf display.
